Record 24,000+ visitors attend Water Expo China 2014

A record 24,408 visitors from 40 countries and regions  attended Water Expo China 2014 at the start of December, supported by the Chinese Government’s initiative to improve China’s water industry.

Commenting on the show, Mr Jason Cao, Chairman of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd said:

“The 2014 fair attracted 320 exhibitors from 24 countries and regions, as well as 24,408 visitors from 40 countries and regions. Among the visitors, 20,802 were domestic visitors and 3,606 were international visitors. Additionally, we welcomed 50 domestic and overseas visitor delegations with the support of various overseas and domestic government agencies and trade associations. The continuous increase of participation figure proves that Water Expo China is an important and comprehensive sourcing platform in the water industry.”

Water Expo China 2014 was successfully held from 1 – 3 December at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The three-day event, covering 22,000 sqm, was organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES).

Mr Li Zantang, Secretary General of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society added that supported by the government, the market demand for water-related products and solutions in China continues to grow.

Sound Group, a renowned environmental protection and renewable energy solutions provider in China and first time exhibitor described the show as "a significant platform"for industry sectors focusing on environmental protection, water resources and water treatment.

Xylem Analytics, a leading provider of premium field, portable, online and laboratory analytical instrumentations from the US, is a long term participant at the show.

Another long-term exhibitor Dayu Conserving Water Group Co Ltd returned again this year. Mr Sun Kelai, Assistant of International Trade Development for the firm, commented:

“2014 was a fruitful year for us. We met with representatives from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) who agreed to promote our irrigation system. Moreover, we also connected with potential buyers from Russia who requested quotations on certain products. We have achieved our objective.”

First-year participant, Dr Liang Zhichao, R&D Center Director for Yonggao Co Ltd, Chairman Unit of China Plastics Piping Association (CPPA), said the firm had recorded remarkable results at the show, commenting:

“We met with government officials and property owners in the water treatment field who have already agreed to act as distributing agents for our products. Additionally, we have also successfully connected with buyers from Austria, Russia and other European countries. Water Expo China is a highly beneficial platform for promoting our company in both domestic and international markets.”

Good results for Ramboll Co Ltd, a leading engineering, design and consultancy firm and a participating exhibitor of the Denmark Pavilion organised by the Trade Council of Denmark in China and the Royal Danish Embassy, mean the firm is also planning to return next year.

A range of concurrent events addressing the most relevant issues of the water industry in China also added to the show’s success, featuring the theme “China’s Deep Reform on Enhancing Water Ecology.” The ninth edition of the China International Water Business Summit ,one of the most anticipated events held alongside the show, saw some of the industry’s most influential experts and scholars share their views on the latest market trends and industry news.

 A keynote presentation by Ms Qian Yi, Tsinghua University Professor of Environmental Engineering Institute, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice Chairman of Beijing CPPCC on “Sustainable Management Strategies of Water Resources in China”, was organised by the Shanghai Water Engineering Association. Ms Qian Yi highlighted China’s water resource and pollutions challenges and suggested solutions on pending issues to improve water conservancy in China.

The Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES), founded in 1931, which organises Water Expo China has become a significant force for China’s water resources science and technology development. The academic organisation of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering professionals, affiliated with the China Association for Science and Technology, has 100,000 individual members, 41 special commissions, 9 working committees, 60 group members, and 31 local (provincial level) hydraulic engineering societies.
